One frustration when travelling to a major cosmopolitan town like London is the limited time available for your pre-theater dinner. So it's a real bonus to find a restaurant that's very close to a theater, with a food atmosphere, an excellent bar and good quality reasonably priced food.

Now, for trips to the Theatre Royal or when going to Phantom of the Opera, there's a great option. Quod Restaurant, Haymarket. A popular place for local London West End workers, Quod won't tend to be stumbled on by the travelling businessman or tourist. But it provides a great reason to take a stroll down Haymarket, theater going or not, instead of taking the standard stroll from Leicester Square along Coventry Street to Piccadilly Circus.

The environment is somewhat akin to one of those large New York discotheques, expansive and open like a converted warehouse, with balcony areas from which you can people watch the other revellers. Quod has a deceivingly wide variety of things to offer. The bar staff are knowledgeable and creative cocktail-ologists. There are 2 public restaurant areas and 4, soon to be 5, private dining areas with capacities ranging from 15 to 100.

Quod Haymarket All over the walls are unusual collections of art work - occasionally surprising compositions when you look at them closely. These have been collected by Quod's entrepreneurial owner/creator. In fact, the third Quod, following on the heels of Oxford and London will be in Brighton and have an exhibition of these works of final year art students' work attached.
